It’s nearly impossible to imagine Switzerland not producing fine chocolates, Italy Chianti or France Camembert. Yet with increasing mass production, these traditional products are being threatened. This is especially true with beer - that beverage synonymous with Germany’s Oktoberfest and outdoor festivals. Food-Travels.com attended the Slow-Bier-Messe hosted by the Oberfranken town of Münchberg, acting to protect its brewery culture.

Robiola di Roccaverano Italian soft cheese is fighting to retain its traditional character amid a kind of culinary homogeny. The cheese comes exclusively from the northern Italian mountain town of Roccaverano in Piedmont. Even the goat producing the milk is protected.

Germany's oldest Christmas market is held in the eastern town of Dresden. The 575-year old Striezelmarkt - as it's known locally - boasts some of Germany's most famous Christmas foods and handmade wooden decorations.
